WRAPPING FIELDS
The studio seeks the notion of ‘Structure as Space’ - the space where a filmic intangible phenomenal atmosphere resides. The curtain, pliable - folded - patterned - moving, used to be the medium of threshold is reevaluated by gami (paper) with the mechanisms of ori (to fold) and kiri (to cut). Precise diagramming and practice of origami and kirigami reveals the embedded structure of folded plates - gami.
Program: The physical ground of the project is in Denver Colorado. The studio plays the game in the dynamics of two different structural systems: regularity (parking) and irregularity (theatre), and contextual relationships to the Denver Film Society and its annual film festival - Starz Denver Film Festival.
SITE PLAN / FLOOR PLAN
FOLD DENVER CINEMA
Two fields grow starting from opposite locations. Both of these fields deploy along the proposed site and intersect. As a response of this intersection, the fields start to fold, creating a wrapping behavioral condition, which ultimately becomes the outdoor theater space. The backsides of these two fields perform as a structural system of the building.
