DYMAXION CHAIR
Product Design
The project intends to produce an innovative design through a creative use of materials, craftsmanship and overall tectonic qualities. The overall design of the Dymaxion Chair is inspired by the Platonic Solid: ICOSAHEDRON.
Each of the surfaces is manipulated based on the human scale and proportions as well as the standard sizes/dimensions for furniture. The design is adapted to an existing base [chair legs].
Materials:
_ 1/2” Plywood
_ Stainless Steel L-shape profiles
_ Screws
_ Metal Base/Legs
PINECONE LAMP
PATTERNED NECKLACE
The project explores a design process through different mediums, tools, and techniques:
[2D/3D Software + Laser Cutting + 3D Printing]
Phase_01
NOTIONS + OPERATIVITY
Operations such as scale, mirror, and repetition are applied to a regular shape [pentagon]. The 2D manipulation creates a pattern.
Phase_02
SURFACE PERFORATIONS + RASTERS
The generated pattern is sent to the Laser Cutter for perforation and raster explorations. This phase starts to suggest surfacing strategies.
Phase_03
3D PATTERNS + SURFACE RELIEFS
Generating extrusions. Surfaces are being manipulated [extruded] to create a volumetric pattern.
Phase_04
3D PRINTING + VISUAL NARRATIVE
Final design is sent to the 3D Printer.
